Simple Bird Feeders

Sometimes the best kinds of crafts are the ones that take very little thought or money but make our children's eyes light up when they come downstairs and find it all set out for them, just waiting for them to create with us.

The kind where eating spoonfuls of peanut butter right out of the jar with Mom is totally acceptable and in fact necessary in between painting it onto toilet rolls just enjoying the magic of the moment together.

The kind where an old favorite preschool craft comes to life in a new way when you see it in their eyes as you take just a little extra time to be with them exploring their creativity.

We hung our bird feeders up so that we could see them from the window and we imagined what colors and kinds of birds might come and try first.

And when the mess was done a wild time of pretending we were birds and eating big peanut butter and honey sandwiches on the deck with bare feet and apples, laughing and enjoying the simplest pleasures of life ensued because that's what making wonderful things does to us - fills us with deep joy and gratitude.

After all we are called to create because we were created and we are called also to teach them how to love making things with their hands as an act of worship to God who loves us so tenderly that he gave us the chance to try our hand at making beauty too.
