Grandmas Famous Pie

We have a bounty of apples on our counter this year they keep coming over from my in-laws house in huge brown bags full. Sweet and tangy and smaller than store bought they are the perfect size for kids to grab and munch on throughout the day.

I have had such fun with my bounty of apples these past few weeks making apple sauce and cake and snacking on them right alongside of the kids too. But my favorite way to enjoy the sweet apples of fall is inside Grandma Velma's famous pie crust. Flaky and delicious with the perfect balance of savory to compliment the sweet filling. I thought I would share it with you this month in case you have a huge crop of fruit sitting on your counter too!

Grandmas Famous Pie Crust {makes enough for two pies}

4 cups of flour

2 cups of shortening mixed and placed in the fridge overnight

in the morning mix together with a flour cutter and then add your moisture

1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

5 tablespoons of water
1 egg
pinch of salt

Beat together and then slowly add to the flour/shortening mixture. when it comes together split into four equal parts. Enough crust for two pies. Roll out bottom crust and place in pie dish fill with your favorite filling and top with second crust.

Cover edges with foil and bake for 15 minutes at 425 degrees then lower the temp to 400 degrees and continue baking another 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Sprinkle with sugar and enjoy!

So what do you like to make with falls bounty? I love collecting treasured recipes to add to my vault. Happy fall everyone!
